Oct 2024    Writing on Central Housue and Architectural Pedagogy

“Mētēr Pólis: A School in the City” was published in Stoà Journal no.11 under the theme “Schools, Buildings.” Mētēr Pólis is a writing project on Central House by ARU, the former home of the School of Art, Architecture, and Design at London Metropolitan University from 2013 to 2017. The project is a collaboration between Estelle Hobeika and Yuxin Wu, featuring conversations with young architectural practitioners and Central House alumni Georgi Georgiev, Zahra Haidar, and Minchol Lee.

A new pier-like structure extending between volcanic rock-enclosed reef ponds on the coastal edge, beyond its observational purpose, the structure supports marine life in large tanks, complementing a nearby marine research facility.

Transformation of derelict sites into enclosed gardens serving as communal spaces and nurseries for local vegetation within the village. Walls are constructed from recycled volcanic stones sourced on-site, employing traditional stacking patterns with contemporary reinforcement for structural stability.
